Breakfast On A String

What  better way to start the day than creating your own breakfast necklace?  Anticipating a day full of thunderstorms today I was prepared for making lots of crafts (a.k.a. messes) Our first was these very fashionable necklaces soon dubbed "Breakfast On A String" - I know, I know so original - gotta love the new Fruit Loops with "sprinkles" we also have regular "boring" Fruit Loops but I honestly can't tell the difference.  Turns out it was over 70 degrees all day and we spent the entire day outside so this is the only indoor craft we made and we ate the mess, so all in all it was a fabulous start to a fabulous day!

Can you tell which of my girls is early to rise and who likes to sleep in?  Riley would laze around in bed all morning if I let her!

It's Time For A Luau!

Start with these adorable Luau party invitations!
Invitations

Add in this fabulous skirt/tank combo for the party princess.
Hula Girl Set
If your party is for a boy I would suggest Khaki shorts and an adorable hawaiian shirt.

Flower Hair Clips

Party Food
A fabulous idea for a luau is kabobs, easy to grab hold and eat for little fingers!  A great spin on kabobs is to do fruit Kabobs and this is also a fabulous activity for party goers of all ages.  Simply leave out trays filled with chunks of fresh pineapple, melons, strawberry halves, grapes, kiwi slices, etc.  Provide skewers and your guests can make their own perfect kabobs with their favorites!

With the fruit kabobs I would serve up some bbq chicken and potato or pasta salad, simple yummy foods kids are sure to gobble up!  For beverages I woulde try out a new fun punch recipe like...

Luscious Slush Punch
mmmmmmm....yummy!
And how cute would be these adorable umbrellas that you have with customized and then print and make your own!  You can even pick your own colors!!!

oh, and the cake...

Pixie Dust "Lei"

Handmade Candy Leis
For a cute twist on the standard Lei you can have your party guests create their own candy Leis. You will need lots of individually wrapped candies for this project!  Anything from Tootsie Rolls(the colored ones would be perfect) to hard candies will work.  I found instructions from Martha Stewart here.  But if you are having young children staples may not be a great idea, I instead would try tape and the the little ones can do it themselves as a party activity!

Time To Hula!
If your party guests are old enough learning to hula may be the perfect party activity to burn off some energy as well as get some laughs!
I found this website that describes the basics to hula dancing.  Another option would be to watch You Tube videos of hula lessons online or if you are able to, hire and instructor/performer for your party to teach the guest for while you sit back and relax with a Mai Tai!  Cute grass skirts can be purchased at most party supply stores and even on orientaltrading.com ($20 for 12 kiddie skirts) as well as some other cute supplies like a tropical grass skirt for your table!
If doing the traditional hula isn't your thing, how about hula hoops?!?!

Flitter, Flutter, Butterfly!

Spring has sprung, and to say I'm excited is a huge understatement!  In honor of the warmer months ahead, the stunning flowers begining to bloom all around, and the lush green grass (thanks to my husbands frequent fertilizing of our lawn) I have begun using some lovely little butterflies on my pixie dust.  These beauties are all handmade by me using wire and glass seed beads.  Perfect!

Tea Party Treats

After my girls finished eating "surprise lunch" on Tuesday we suddenly had the urge to bake, I went to the kitchen, grabbed a recipe I have been waiting to try, and took 3 sticks of butter out of the fridge. (my recipe called for unsalted but I only had 1 unsalted so the rest was regular)
Here is the recipe me and my girls used to make so wonderful Jam Thumbprint cookies ~ which were so pretty we had to enjoy them over an impromptu tea party ~ and of course put off nap time as long as possible!
These cookies are the perfect cookie to make with kids, they are very hands on, and there is a lot kids can do ~ just make sure they wash their hands very well first!

Ingredients
24 tablespoons (3 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 large egg
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup jam ~ I used seedless raspberry, which was perfect, I think these cookies really need a tart jam ~ lemon curd would have been wonderful too!

Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 350.  In a large mixing bowl, using an electric mixer beat butter and sugar until smoot, continue beating and add vanilla and egg.  Beat until completely combined.  With mixer on low slowly add flour, and mix until just incorporated.

2. Shape dough into 1-inch balls and place on a baking sheet at least 3 inches apart. (If you wish to add extra sweetness you can roll your cookies in sugar)

3. Moisten thumb with water and gently press the center of each ball, making an indentation about 1/2 inch wide and an inch deep.   Melt jam on the stove or in the microwave until liquified.  Spoon about 1/2 teaspoon jam into each indentation.  Bake until cookies are golden brown around the edges, 18-20 minutes.  Transfer to a wire rack, and let cool completely. (If storing, place in an airtight container at room temperature, up to two days)
Enjoy!

Note: this recipe was adapted from Martha Stewart's Recipes.

Collecting Sand

It was so nice out yesterday (finally!) that I brought my girls to the beach to collect a bit of sand - I will be hopefully using it in some necklaces in the near future ~ maybe more pirate bottles?
We'll just have to wait and see what happens!

Tinkertastic!

Here are some fabulous ideas for a "Tinkertastic" Tinkerbell birthday party!

First things first, you will need to invite your little guests in style and let them in on what fantastic fun is ahead, here is an adorable invitation

And how about these handmade wands ~ they are gorgeous, I want one for myself ~ my girls would love that!

As for party favors - well if the wands and tutus aren't enough for your toddler ~ is there such a thing as to much Tinkerbell? Here are few finds on etsy!

Let them eat Cake!!!!
This cake is amazing, stunning, gorgeous, and I'm pretty sure it's not easy to make, but hey someone out there may want to try!

Here is a great alternative to a cake ~ cupcakes!  This would also be a fantastic birthday party activity, you could have the cupcakes ready to go ~ even frosted green, and then have plenty of the flower cookies and ladybugs and have the guests decorate their own cupcakes!

Another cute party game for a tinkerbell party would be to do a Maypole ~ how adorable would your photos be of all the little girls (and boys) dressed up in tutus with wands running around the maypole!?!?
